The "Childcare Centre Gummersbach" emerged as the first part to be realized from the "Development of the Ackermann Areal" competition won in 2009. It was intended to create a multi-faceted range of residential forms for young and older people - with a high proportion of common and cross generational living. The new integrated childcare centre is the first step to develop this new residential area. The additional need for childcare places caused by the nearby town centre and the new university of applied sciences will also be covered by the new building.
The draft takes account in its location the connecting green strip between the Steinmüller site in the east and the town limits to the west. As a "solitary" in nature the new building, with its windmill-like layout, is oriented to all sides and towards the surrounding free space. The building's architecture thus continues the clear "language" of the new university of applied science. Thus the new childcare centre can definitely be understood to be part of the new education location. The childcare centre is barrier free and offers space for four childcare groups. Alongside the actual childcare task, it is also intended to establish the building as a family centre.
